They should not be necessary. DVD / CD writers are very stable. Based on your hardware, you have a very decent writer. I burn back to 4.5, without a problem back DVD. I have the disc for at least 7 years and still have no false-burner.
Perhaps, if the hard disk to start a little too hot for comfort, you can open the drawer for a few minutes.
Should not happen if you burn a tremendous amount of records ...
